RORY & OSCAR S – A-LEVEL FURTHER MATHS

Rory and Oscar both started tuition with Matt’s Maths at the start of Y13. They were both intelligent students and performed excellently in AS Maths, but were unsure on some of the key concepts in A-Level Further Maths, particularly in the Core Pure section. The main focus of our sessions were to consolidate the key topics each of them struggled with, with session’s catered to each student’s individual needs. Once topics were consolidated, we looked at some of the more difficult questions, before giving each student individualised work specific to the needs of each of them. Both of the twins made use of the reliable out of session support that Matt’s Maths supplies, while also attending additional exam technique sessions during half term breaks.

Oscar’s results spoke for themselves: 4 A*s , including A* in Maths and A* in Further Maths. Rory also performed excellently across all his subjects, achieving AAA (with A in Maths and A in Further Maths) and a place at the University of Birmingham! Their hard work and commitment paid of massively and I couldn’t have been more pleased for the both of them.

Bob (Rory & Oscar’s Dad): Fantastic tutor! Matt has tutored both my sons in A-level Maths and Further Maths, helping them achieve As and A*s. When they were having trouble with certain topics at school, they both said Matt was great at explaining difficult concepts in a way that was easier to understand. They also found the sessions enjoyable and said Matt was easy to get on with. From a parent’s point of view, Matt is a very organised tutor and plans in advance for any changes to the schedule. DAN M – A-LEVEL MATHS

Dan began tuition with Matt’s Maths in March. He was working at a B, and he required an A in order to meet his grade requirements for uni. The grade he was working at was not necessarily due to a lack of knowledge, but he struggled to apply his knowledge into more difficult concepts and questions. Through personalised one-on-one sessions, we focused on exam technique and understanding the content, so we could apply it to the most difficult questions. Dan saw drastic improvement over just the first 4 weeks of tuition! He attended all of the Matt’s Maths Exam Masterclasses, which were free as part of Dan’s tuition. He completed all topic tests and consolidation work, alongside his own revision. He also contacted me out of session time if he had any queries, and would always receive an efficient and detailed response through our reliable out of session support.

Dan achieved an A* after only 3 months of tuition through Matt’s Maths, meeting the conditions required to study at the University of Cambridge in September!

ISLA R – A-LEVEL MATHS

Isla started tutoring with Matt’s Maths earlier in the year. She lacked confidence and knowledge in some of the topics which appear most often on the paper, including trigonometry and equilibrium of rigid bodies. Through engaging and interactive sessions, Isla began to gain confidence in answering all types of questions. Our first session of the week covered any concepts she had struggled with in class, followed by personalised exam-style questions, tailored to the topics she struggled with most following the style of her exam board. Our second session focused on recapping the AS/start of A2 content, following a similar structure to her first session. This allowed her to understand the content more effectively, and apply it to more difficult exam questions. She was proactive outside of sessions, always contacting me with any questions outside of sessions. With Matt’s Maths reliable out of session support, Isla would receive a prompt reply and a written solution.

Isla ended up improving 3 grades over the space of just 6 months, and she was over the moon!

OLLIE F – A-LEVEL MATHS

Ollie began tuition with Matt’s Maths in August 2025. He was clearly very intelligent, but lacked the understanding on how to tackle the most difficult questions. As with all students, Ollie’s sessions were catered to his individual requirements. His sessions focused on covering new content prior to his school, allowing him to fully understand the content in school and consolidate with the most difficult questions in our second session of the week. Ollie also benefitted from TMUA tuition through Matt’s Maths, particularly focusing on timing and reducing the opportunity to make mistakes. Through my A* workbook, Ollie had an enormous amount of the most difficult questions to go through together in the few months prior to his first exam. The questions focused on the content which appears most often on his specific specification.

Ollie gained an A* Maths, achieving an average of 90% across the 3 papers. His commitment, work ethic, and trust in his tutor paid dividends in his results. Ollie also achieved A*s in History and Economics. He plans on taking a gap year, where he plans to study and also travel New Zealand!

Ollie : I ended up getting 3 A*s. In Maths, I got 87 on the first paper, 91 on the second (paper), and 92 on the third (paper). I am thrilled with these results. I can’t thank you enough for the tutoring over the last year. Also, my brother has just finished year 12 and I was hoping you’d be able to tutor him when the school year starts.

BROOKE S – GCSE MATHS

Brooke started tutoring with Matt’s Maths in September of Year 11. Her Year 10 mock was a grade 3, and she clearly struggled with the key areas of the GCSE specification. Immediately, we identified the basic foundational topics which she struggled with most. Her individually designed sessions were targeted and covering these topics, and consolidating them with exam-style questions. Her November mock result was a massive improvement from June, and allowed her to take the higher paper in May. From this point, with Brooke’s solid foundational knowledge, we then began to identify and target more difficult topics. Brooke gained knowledge and understanding of these topics fast, by consolidating outside of sessions using Matt’s Maths worksheets and her own resources. She was proactive outside of lessons, communicating any issues she had with questions with Matt’s Maths reliable out of session support. As the Summer came round, we focused on more difficult exam questions, in particular ensuring she understands the key concepts of these problems, to be apply this to other questions.

Brooke ended up with a Grade 7 in her GCSE Maths, a massive 4 grade improvement in just 9 months. Brooke is now going onto to study English, Biology and Psychology at A-Level over the next 2 years.

Jonathan (Brooke’s Dad): Matt’s excellent tutoring significantly improved my daughter’s Maths grade. In Year 10, before her tutoring began, my daughter scraped a 3 in her mock. Today, results day, and she’s achieved a 7. A big change in just a year, thanks in no small measure to Matt’s tutoring sessions. Thank you, Matt.
