MORE About Matt

Hi, I’m Matt Hargreaves and I am a full-time maths tutor. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at A-Level, gaining A*s in both Maths and Further Maths. I also completed a Diploma in Sporting Excellence in swimming. I then went on to study Mathematics at Durham University for 3 years, specialising in Bayesian Non-Parametric Statistics in my final year dissertation.

During my time at Durham, I began to tutor part-time. I gained a real passion for helping students and improving their confidence, and went full-time in tutoring at the conclusion of my studies. I am now 22 years old and having gained several years of experience across all levels, gaining outstanding results across GCSE and A-Level exams. My student’s have received offers from some of the top UK universities including: Cambridge, St Andrews and Durham.

Maths is all about understanding the concepts in order to apply this to any type of question. My teaching style is patient, approachable and supportive. I believe that every student can succeed in maths when concepts are explained in the right way, and I take pride in making even the most challenging topics feel manageable. Whether a student is aiming to improve their confidence, secure a pass, or achieve the very highest grades, I tailor every lesson to their individual needs, learning style and goals.

A detailed close-up of a large erasable whiteboard filled with neatly organized mathematics content: clearly drawn coordinate axes with colorful parabolas, annotated angles in a triangle, and step-by-step solutions arranged in logical columns. Magnetic markers and an eraser rest on the aluminium tray at the bottom, adding tactile realism. The setting suggests a dedicated tutoring room, with a blurred bookshelf of reference texts and neatly labeled folders in the background. Soft, even overhead lighting and subtle window light combine to eliminate harsh shadows, producing a bright, professional atmosphere. Shot straight-on with photographic realism and sharp focus across the entire frame, the composition emphasizes structure, clarity, and the methodical approach of an experienced maths tutor.
A clean wooden study desk arranged for advanced mathematics revision, featuring an open notebook filled with neatly handwritten algebraic equations, a high-quality scientific calculator, and a pair of sharpened pencils resting diagonally across grid paper. In the background, a large computer monitor displays a softly blurred graphing interface with colorful curves and coordinate axes. The scene is set near a window overlooking an indistinct urban skyline suggestive of Sheffield, with soft afternoon daylight diffused through sheer curtains, casting gentle shadows. Photographic realism at eye level with a shallow depth of field keeps the desk items in crisp focus while the background fades to a smooth bokeh, creating a professional, focused, and encouraging study atmosphere.

The main focus of my sessions is how to apply the knowledge you have obtained into more difficult and challenging questions. Therefore, I focus my sessions on exam-style questions in order to improve the student’s understanding and knowledge as efficiently as possible.

I also provide several of my own resources, such as topic tests and mock exams, along with model solutions, to aid the student’s revision in their own time. Student’s can find my resources in the Student Area section of the site. Students will be provided with their own log in to access these resources at the time of starting sessions. Student’s are also encouraged to contact me outside of session time with any questions they may have throughout the week.

Sessions are conducted through Google Meet and Google Classroom. Notes from sessions will be sent across directly after the session, along with any additional resources to consolidate the content throughout the week. Session prices are £39/£45 (GCSE/A-Level) per week for one single session. If a student would like tuition more frequently than once a week, the cost is £30/£34 per additional session. The price per week includes access to resources, mock exams and contact outside of sessions.
